Work Schedule:                                                          

190-day contract. Hours are typically 7:30-4:00 daily with a 30-minute lunch and two 15-minute breaks. However, the daily schedule may vary depending on the needs of the district.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Occupational Therapist leads the process in the development, implementation and coordination of the Occupational Therapy program. Screening, evaluation, educational programming and transitional planning, therapeutic intervention, and exit planning are provided for students identified with or suspected of having disabilities that interfere with their ability to perform daily life activities or participate in necessary or desired occupations. Professional judgment and clinical knowledge are used to develop individualized programming based on occupational performance deficits in areas of personal care, student role, interaction skills, process skills, play, community integration/work, and graphic communication.

 

Essential Functions

  1. Collaborates with other disciplines
  2. Screens and produces strategies for students that demonstrate areas of concern.
  3. Completes standardized testing and skilled observations.
  4. Synthesizes evaluation results into a comprehensive report which reflects strengths and barriers in theeducation environment.
  5. Develops intervention plans based on student needs and evaluation results.
  6. Participates in multi-disciplinary meetings to review evaluation results and develop IEP plans to achieve listedgoals.
  1. Provides targeted, evidence-based therapeutic intervention.
  2. Consults with school-based team.
  3. Adapts and modifies environment.
  4. Educates student, educational personnel, and family.
  5. Monitors and reassesses the effects of intervention.
  6. Documents services to ensure accountability.
  1. Prioritizes and schedules work tasks independently.
  2. Manages inventory of therapeutic equipment and assessments.
  3. Develops list of project needs for budget planning.
  4. Maintains clinical and administrative records in accordance with professional standards, state guidelines, anddistrict policy.
  5. Provides legal and ethical supervision of Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants.
  6. Reviews Occupational Therapy services for quality improvement and makes changes as needed.
  1. Teaches, monitors, and collaborates with educational personnel, community agencies, parents, and students.
  2. Provides continuing education and inservices for educational personnel, parents and community-based serviceproviders.
  3. Coordinates fieldwork education and supervision for Occupational Therapy and Occupational Therapy students.
  1. Participates in continuing educaton for professional development to ensure best evidence-based practice andmeet Arkansas State Board and National Board of Occupational Therapy Certification requirements.
  2. Uses professional literature, evidence-based research, and continuing education content to make practicedecisions.
  1. Uses professional standards of practice to guide decision-making.

SKILLS & ABILITIES         

        Education:                               Bachelor's Degree (four-year college or technical school) Required, Field of Study:                                                                Occupational Therapy and a

                                                        Master's Degree, Field of Study: Occupational Therapy

 

        Experience:                             Experience as a school occupational therapist preferred.

   Computer Skills:                           Shall be able to demonstrate an acceptable level of proficiency with computers and                                                               programs associated with the position.

   Certifications & Licenses:            Current Arkansas licensure or certification as appropriate for the position.

 

        Other Requirements:             1. Successful completion of pre-employment background checks.
