The HIPPY Homebased Educator (HBE)

                                                                           

                                                                               

 

Job Description :

 

          The implementation of the HIPPY model is centered on the recruitment, training, and professional development of parents as homebased educators (HBEs) from the immediate community.  These HBEs provide the family home instruction and are the key to the success of HIPPY. A homebased educator meets with each parent in the home weekly, or as assigned by the coordinator. Once a month the HBE meets with all of the parents at a group meeting.

                The local school districts, HIPPY Field Coordinator and/or HIPPY Program Coordinator choose Homebased Educators, with past or current parents preferred.  Job requirements may vary within the co-op area.

The Homebased educator:

 

1. Obtains all student documentation or pending documentation;


2. Reviews the activity packets from the previous week & discusses any problems that arose with the parent while working          with the child.


3. Instructs the parent in the up-coming week’s material, provides the family with current program

    information and provides the family with enrichment activities for the child.

 

4. Meets weekly with the coordinator to report on each family’s progress, discuss and receive the next week’s materials,              submit all required paperwork, and update all required computer data;


5. Keeps records of all home visits and group meetings and submits them to the coordinator, recruits and screens students,        inputs computer information online (currently COPA), and submits all required information weekly to the field coordinator;

 

6. With supervision from the Field Coordinator, the HBE will evaluate the children two times a year, and hold a parent/teacher      conference twice a year;

 

7. Passes on any concerns to the coordinator for further discussion/action;

 

8. HIPPY, community and school public relations must be promoted through newspaper articles of the monthly

    parent group meetings, documentation of HIPPY events in the local parent activity scrapbook, and attendance

    at all required meetings and trainings established by the local district, the WDMESC HIPPY Program, AR HIPPY, 

    Arkansas Better Chance Program, and HIPPY USA;                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    

9. The HBE is a “paraprofessional” type position.  Each school district determines the salary schedule and any benefits                applicable to the position.   The HBE position is for 36 weeks per year.
