Base contract is 238 days (with the athletic coach index), but may be increased depending on coaching assignment(s). Daily schedule varies based on requirements of the athletic program(s). Also, classroom teachers may periodically be required to attend after-school or evening events as a normal expectation of their position.
POSITION SUMMARY
Teach students in a content area that is yet to be determined.
Essential Functions
- Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
- Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students.
- Observe and evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
- Guide and counsel students with adjustment or academic problems, or special academic interests.
- Confer with parents or guardians, other teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems.
- Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress and to determine priorities for their children and their resource needs.
- Instruct and monitor students in the use of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage.
- Meet with other professionals to discuss individual students' needs and progress.
- Confer with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons that promote learning, following approved curricula.
- Prepare reports on students and activities as required by administration.
- Collaborate with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of secondary school programs.
- Sponsor extracurricular activities such as clubs, student organizations, and academic contests.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees, as required.
- Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and professional development sessions to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Administer standardized ability and achievement tests and interpret results to determine students' strengths and areas of need.
- Select, store, order, issue, and inventory classroom equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Perform administrative duties such as assisting in school libraries, hall and cafeteria monitoring, and bus loading and unloading.
- Select and use appropriate resources.
- Exhibit knowledge of content and content-related pedagogy.
- Exhibit knowledge of adolescent development.
- Exhibit knowledge of individual students' knowledge, skills, and special needs.
- Adhere to student Individualized Education Program (IEP) and 504 plans.
- Plan assignments for teacher assistance, volunteers, and substitutes.
- Respond appropriately to student behavior.
- Plan and set sequential outcomes with rigor and high expectations.
- Plan and implement appropriate learning activities suitable to meet all students' needs.
- Demonstrate care and respect when interacting with students.
- Manage classroom procedures with limited loss of instructional time.
- Ensure students are actively engaged in learning.
- Provide timely, consistent, high-quality feedback to students.
- Develop and administer assessments of rigor that match standards of learning.
- Reflect on practice and make adjustments for professional growth.
- Maintain professionalism with staff members.
- Report to the proper authorities any cases of suspected child endangerment, neglect, or abuse.
- Adhere to all policies of the District.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or other administrators.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education: Bachelor's Degree (four-year college or technical school) Required, Field of Study: Correlated to teaching assignment
Master's Degree Preferred, Field of Study: Correlated to teaching assignment If teaching Advanced Placement class, teacher must meet academic qualifications set by the associated college or university.
Experience: Prior head-coaching experience preferred.
Computer Skills: Shall be able to demonstrate an acceptable level of proficiency with computers and programs associated with the position.
Certifications & Licenses: Must have current Arkansas teaching license for the grade level or assigned subject. Must be able to document highly-qualified status under federal law (where required).

Athletic Coach

POSITION SUMMARY
Instruct or coach groups or individuals in the fundamentals of sports. Demonstrate techniques and methods of participation. Evaluate athletes' strengths and weaknesses as possible recruits or to improve the athletes' techniques to prepare them for competition.
Essential Functions
- Provide training direction, encouragement, motivation, and nutritional advice to prepare athletes for practices, games, and other competitive events.
- Plan, organize, and conduct practice sessions.
- Explain and enforce safety rules and regulations.
- Plan and direct physical conditioning programs that will enable athletes to achieve maximum performance.
- Make efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of each athlete.
- Instruct individuals or groups in sports rules, game strategies, and performance principles, such as specific ways of moving the body, hands, or feet to achieve desired results.
- Teach instructional courses and advise students.
- Evaluate athletes' skills and review performance records to determine their fitness and potential in a particular area of athletics.
- Monitor athletes' use of equipment to ensure safe and proper use.
- Adjust coaching techniques, based on the strengths and weaknesses of athletes.
- Keep abreast of changing rules, techniques, technologies, and philosophies relevant to their sport.
- Develop and arrange competition schedules and programs.
- Analyze the strengths and weaknesses of opposing teams to develop game strategies.
- Contact the parents of players to provide information and answer questions.
- Coordinate travel arrangements and travel with team to away contests.
- Explain and demonstrate the use of sports and training equipment, such as trampolines or weights.
- Arrange and conduct sports-related activities, such as training camps, skill-improvement courses, clinics, and pre-season try-outs.
- Keep and review paper, computerized, and video records of athlete, team, and opposing team performance.
- Counsel student athletes on academic, athletic, and personal issues.
- Select, acquire, store, and issue equipment and other materials as necessary.
- Perform activities that support a team or a specific sport, such as participating in community outreach activities, meeting with media representatives, and appearing at fundraising events.
- Monitor the academic eligibility of student athletes.
- Plan strategies and choose team members for individual games or sports seasons.
- Discuss the development and management of the sports program budget and fundraising activities with the Athletic Director and/or Building Principal.
- Report to the proper authorities any cases of suspected child endangerment, neglect, or abuse.
- Complete all Arkansas Activities Association (AAA) sponsored annual training and meet requirements for endorsement updates.
- Adhere to all policies of the District.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or Building Principal.

Education: Bachelor's Degree (four-year college or technical school) Required, Field of Study: Academic area w/coaching endorsement or P.E.
Experience: Prior coaching experience preferred.
Computer Skills: Shall be able to demonstrate an acceptable level of proficiency with computers and programs associated with the position.
Certifications & Licenses: Current Arkansas teaching license with appropriate certification required.
