190-day contract. While most job responsibilities are during the day, some night activities may be required.                                                                                           

POSITION SUMMARY

Provide instruction to identified gifted and talented students in a GT classroom setting and other duties as assigned.

 

Essential Functions

  • Exhibit knowledge of gifted and talented content and content-related pedagogy.
  • Ensure students are actively engaged in learning implementing procedures that ensure individual gifted and talented students receive the services to which that are legally entitled.
  • Understand and apply the knowledge of the historical, legal, and conceptual foundations of gifted education to advocate for gifted and talented students and the gifted education program.
  • Demonstrate care and respect when interacting with students.
  • Manage classroom procedures with limited loss of instructional time.
  • Exhibit knowledge of child/adolescent development as appropriate for gifted and talented students.
  • Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress to determine priorities for their instructional and developmental needs.
  • Have knowledge of assessment issues relevant to gifted and talented students, conduct screenings and assessments for the possibility of GT identification and evaluation, and communicating assessment results to students, teachers, and parents/guardians.
  • Confer with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems.
  • Conduct parent meetings on gifted education issues and encourage active participation in the district program as needed/assigned.
  • Chair the building GT placement committee for identification of students for the gifted program as needed/assigned.
  • Assist and provide support and resources for teachers with gifted students in the classrooms as they attempt to identify and meet the needs of their identified students.
  • Guide and counsel students with adjustment or academic problems, or special academic interests.
  • Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students.
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Meet with other professionals to discuss individual GT students' needs and progress.
  • Confer with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons promoting learning, following approved curricula as needed.
  • Create a learning environment that supports and meets the social, emotional, and cognitive needs of identified gifted and talented students, and reflects research-supported instructional practices.
  • Understand and applying knowledge of curriculum design to foster student performance at advanced levels.
  • Collaboratively implement a shared mission and vision of the GT program.
  • Provide needed professional development in gifted education for faculty and staff as needed/assigned.
  • Prepare reports on students and activities as required by administration.
  • Collect and use data to identify goals, assess effectiveness, and promote growth in learning.
  • Select and use appropriate resources for GT learning and growth.
  • Promote the use of the most effective and appropriate technologies to support teaching and learning.
  • Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and professional development sessions to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Reflect on practice and make adjustments for professional growth.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on committees, as required.
  • Sponsor extracurricular activities such as clubs, student organizations, and academic contests.
  • Perform student supervisory duties such as assisting on the playground, in cafeterias, and early morning or after school car/bus loading and unloading.
  • Plan and set sequential outcomes with rigor and high expectations.
  • Exhibit knowledge of individual students' knowledge, skills, and special needs.
  • Adhere to student Individualized Education Program (IEP) and 504 plans.
  • Respond appropriately to student behavior.
  • Provide timely, consistent, high-quality feedback to students.
  • Reflect on practice and make adjustments for professional growth.
  • Maintain professionalism with staff members.
  • Report to the proper authorities any cases of suspected child endangerment, neglect, or abuse.
  • Adhere to all policies of the District.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal, GT Supervisor or his/her designee.

SKILLS & ABILITIES         

        Education:                             Bachelor's Degree Required, Field of Study: Education

                                                      Master's Degree or Certification: Gifted Education

                                                        

        Experience:                           Previous experience as a Gifted and Talented teacher preferred.

       

        Computer Skills:                    A level of proficiency with computer applications that are appropriate to the position.

     

      Certifications & Licenses:       Current Arkansas teaching license as appropriate for the position.

       

        Other Requirements:             1. Successful completion of pre-employment background checks.
